Overview
We stayed at the Secrets Puerto Los Cabo May 2022 for 7 nights and honestly it is one of my favorite resorts. It can be anything you want it to be!! With guests ranging from 18-80 plus you can relax in a quiet corner of the pool enjoying the Cabo sun or head to the DJ at the swim up bar… Spend your evening at the disco or enjoy room service on your balcony… You can play pickleball or… Well you get the point!! On top of your Jekyll and Hyde adults only vacation, the resort itself is stunning, great food and amazing service, hence it gets our stamp of approval!
Rooms
The rooms are very nice, most of the categories are very similar in style and size but vary in location. The swim out rooms don’t have the view that most of the other rooms have (including many gardenview) which get a good shot of the ocean! Once you get into the preferred category you get closer to the beach and increase your slice of the view! All very comfortable in size and layout, the balconies all get a great sunset view! The preferred category rooms you get a tub on the balcony, which is a cool feature if you are into hanging out in the tub outside! They do have the “privacy box” which basically if you order room service they will drop it in there with no need to enter your room, just be sure to hit the light to say you want this option or they will knock!! The bar was always stocked with pop and beer, and an easy room service call to restock that if you please! Really all in all very happy with the rooms. Oh also, maybe do trust the sunscreen in the room… Not up to what you may be thinking you are getting for sun protection!
Food
We are not foodies… But I do enjoy great tasting food. One thing that I find makes an ok resort and an ok vacation into a great vacation is the food. Secrets do not need reservations for the a la cartes, although I did see a few using them, but we really enjoy not being on a schedule. The waits were small, maybe 20 minutes at the peak times for 6 people. The buffet is a little small but it’s not really a buffet. Made to order steaks, chicken, pork, sushi etc, yes they had pizza and a pasta bar but you also can get that made to order. The Salad bar was really the only “buffet” there! We ate at all the sit down restaurants Oceana (seafood), Portofino (Italian), Himitsu (Pan-Asian), El Patio (Mexican), The Oceana was my favorite, I loved the crab cakes!! The sushi and bowls were amazing at Himitsu and well Italian is great most days!!
Pools
Pools are Cabo… Seems no one wants to hang out at the beach, even though it is very nice, justa little different than other beach destinations. The main pool is large with many places to hang out. The swim up bar side is much more lively than the other side which tends to be a ;little on the quiet side. They have seats and shade throughout the pool to hang out at, and an “upper deck pool” for a smaller crowd. They had daily water volleyball which was fun to get in and play, as well as some pool aerobics if you so choose to partake. The swim up bar was fairly busy, some got a little rowdy for my liking, but hey your vacation, you do you!! They also have a quiet pool, away from the main pool but it is for preferred guests only. Very nice spot to sit and relax if you would like! We spent much of our time at the pool as we hung out with a few couples we met and as mentioned, the pool is basically the spot to be!
Entertainment
The entertainment team was great, almost get a relationship with all their involvement. Bike tour, volleyball, art walk, night shows, ping pong, pickleball, archery, air rifles, they were there and great for a chat!! The team did a great job getting people who wanted to be involved, and took a hint if you wanted to have a quiet day. I can’t say enough about the team!! Also, with that the resort does a great job providing stuff to do for everyone, I’ll mention it again, you can do as much or as little as you want!! Only played beach volleyball once as it seemed hard to get players down on the beach, which is totally opposite from what I’m used to, but they did set it up on the lawn one day which was great fun and busy. This is in addition to the daily water volleyball ball!
Beach
The Sun is hot and the breeze is cool, but not enough for many. The surf is too strong at the resort, hence why people seem to stay away. You can find a swimmable beach but it is a 15 minute walk. We did spend an afternoon enjoying the view and found it quite relaxing. The beach bar is close if you need a beverage, and a couple spots are secluded which makes you feel almost by yourself!! The beach is a cool combination of black and golden sand, not too many rocks for the most part and clean as there isn’t much down the beach for people to hang out. We love the beach, and this one doesn’t get the credit it deserves but it’s the feel of Cabo and it is what it
Things to do!!
Oh Cabo… So Cabo is much like the resort analogy, the tale of two stories! San Jose is more laid back, take it easy vibe and San Lucas is much more “lively”. We much prefer the San Jose area, with cool bars, restaurants and clubs if you so desire, versus the higher energy of San Lucas. In San Jose where Secrets is located, you can walk to the Marina area where you can go fishing, diving, snorkeling… Basically what you want to do in Cabo. The area also has amazing golf courses and was able to find some single track for those who are into MTB. Downtown San Jose has some cool spots, we ate and grabbed a beer at Baja Brewery, a micro brewery just off the main tourist corridor. Also found a cool coffee shop Los Tamarindos Coffee Roasters, stop in for a coffee and take some of the beans home, they were fairly well priced. To get to downtown, we used Uber, much cheaper than the taxi’s, but the taxi’s are still an option if you prefer. Uber is still new to Cabo so most hotels won’t allow pick up in the lobby, but we met them outside, very easy! We also went and saw El Arco, which is in San Lucas. We booked a tour which included the transportation from our resort as it would be rather pricey if you grabbed an Uber or taxi, but the latter you can do your own schedule. In the Marina of San Lucas, you can’t walk without being asked for tours or drugs, which doesn’t bother us too much as we don’t feel threatened at all, just more of a hassle but you get that in many of the popular tourist spots, so don’t let it discourage you!
Final Thoughts
The Secrets Puerto Los Cabo, in my opinion, is the best adults only resort in the Cabo area. There are a couple other contenders but fall short of what this property has to offer! The resort has the whole package, and combine that with the out of resort possibilities and dry warm climate, you have a great combination, even though you can’t go in the water and the beach is not a hang out spot!!
