Overview

The Secrets Bahia Mita & Surf has that WOW factor. The resort has this grandiose feeling once you get out of your transportation. Again another property that is split between the Dreams but only Secrets guests have access to both, with the exception of the Prefered sky pool. AMResorts has again done a great job in an almost seamless but well established boundary between the resorts. We flew under the radar a little on this stop which was nice as we got to see some of the flaws in the hotel that we don’t often get to see. No resort is perfect and some of the small stuff gets missed, but nothing that could ruin a holiday in our opinion, and seemed to be due to a little bit of staff shortage.

Rooms

Secrets do make rooms well, making you feel comfortable and in luxury. A couple small things when we checked in, was a bar fridge not stocked, the entrance door didn’t self close and the sinks didn’t appear overly clean. These things are not huge but when you are expecting an elevated experience it could be an issue. The bed was not as comfortable as I have had in other Secrets but nothing to complain about. We also got missed on the nightly turndown and did not get our Nespresso machine stocked, even though our cups and cream were… Again, these things are some of the little things people enjoy and notice when they are missed. I also couldn’t ask to get the coffee in the room from the app, which I would have liked to try.

Food

We had a good sample of the restaurants, including the buffet for breakfast, room service, Italian, Grill and mediterranean. The first night was longer than expected to get served, but falls back again on they seem to have a little lack of staff at times and places. I enjoyed my meals but nothing was incredible. They do have some great options such as the Blue water which is an a la carte grill, french (we did not go as we had a special order french meal the previous hotel), the Pan Asian and show, Mexican, and the buffets. There are lots of options, but be mindful some dinner spots do allow kids and some are located on the Dreams Side.

Pools

They had a swim up bar, right up against the beach which was a great spot, with a pool a little up and back from the main one. Both aren’t very energetic but it goes with the vibe of the property. The kids pool seemed to be a touch more upbeat but to a family beat which you can head there if you want to hang out with kids! They have a little water park but no big water slides or splash pad which is a big downfall for families as the kids can get bored with limited ocean interaction available at this resort as well. The rumor is they are planning on adding one, but that is just chatting with the staff.

Entertainment

We had a later dinner and missed the show. We don’t often make the shows as we tend to have a late dinner and then are ready for bed. The entertainment was in the shared outdoor theater so I imagine it would be geared towards the kids. They have a sports bar and disco, which is a bigger plus, especially for the groups that are looking to have family and adults stay at the same place. The entertainment team was definitely around, but limited space on the beach allowed for activities. We did not see them too often up in the adult pool areas.

Beach

The Beach was nice for the area… I liked it but it WILL be a downfall for many. They have a great surf spot just off the beach where you can boogie board or rent a surf board. There isn’t amazing swimming or snorkeling but you can hang out in the water. There are rocks, big and small, so if you are expecting a “mayan type” white sand, this is not it!

Things to do!!

There are lots of things to keep you busy in the resort, but I recommend getting out ans seeing the area. You are a little ways north of PV itself, so I would say keep going north! There is a nice little port you can do some fishing from or check out a couple shops, but if you want a more “Mexican Surf town” you can head up to Salulita. Uber will come right to the resort which is beautiful if you are comfortable. A tour I like in the area is Hidden Beach, they do control the amount of time there, but a private tour will get you a better experience!

Final Thoughts

I really loved this property, the beauty, location, and rooms make this resort. I am sure the staffing will get fixed in time and become more of what we would expect from Secrets and Dreams. It can be a little pricey but I have seen it reasonable if you are flexible in booking!
